People Living Positively

A big welcome to you, and to the new year, 2017!

This is the time of  year many of us make our resolutions, and one of mine every year is to live my life more positively.

This past fall, I got to visit with a woman I know who seems to live a positive, fulfilling life.

Her name is Vonnie.

I didn't realize how talented and creative she was until she took me on a tour of  her yard.

She makes beautiful pieces of art out of found objects.

Seeing these cute pieces makes you want to run home and make something!

She even has a mini-farm, complete with real chickens.

After going on her tour, (The tour was longer than I've shown here.) one could even sit on one of the benches, contemplate nature, and listen to the water from the nearby creek peacefully flowing over the rocks.

Not only is Vonnie creative, but she's also a success coach and an aromatherapist. She even started, and is the leader of a local business networking group. She stays active, and seems to really enjoy her life which includes her husband and son.

She's such an inspiration to be around, and is a great example of someone who is living her life positively, and is helping others to live positive lives, as well.

There are some other people I'd like to mention that inspire me to live more positively-

I really admire another talented, creative woman, a graphic designer, that I often work with. Although she has a serious, chronic illness, she is still a successful business person. She has a wonderful sense of humor which I believe has helped her live a more positive life.

Without her encouragement, I think that I would have had a more difficult time achieving the business goals that I have set for myself.

Another encouraging, positive person in my life is a psychic that I sometimes call. She helps me get back on the right track when I need some advice. Genuine psychics are great because they know the truth of what's really going on with us mere mortals! The bottom line is this, whenever I talk with her, I feel greatly uplifted.

Also, there's an older man who works at our local convenience center (garbage dump) who seems happy whenever he sees me, and he always has something positive to say. Boy, if you can be pleasant while working at the garbage dump, there's hope for all of us!

Finally, Pastor Joel Osteen is great! He has such a positive message for all of us on how to live happier, more fulfilling lives. Not only is he a minister of the largest Protestant church in the United States, but he is also a successful author of several empowering books.

Greg and I were lucky to see Joel at one of his recent book signings at our local book store. He was just as nice in person as he seems to be on his television show.

These are just some of the people that I know that tend to live positive lives. Their positive attitudes spill over from themselves which helps other people.

In this new year, let us resolve to become the best that we can be, to make the most of ourselves. We may not be a creative artist or a great speaker, but we are all talented and creative in our ways. We need to find that talent and use it, not only to benefit ourselves, but in so doing, to be a blessing to the world, as well.

"Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works..."
-Matthew 5:16, ESV

Books Worth Looking Into

Welcome!

Lately, I've been reading some pretty helpful, interesting books that I thought you might enjoy knowing about. On this blog post, I'd like to share those with you.*

"...The best (books) should be labeled 'This could change your life.'"-Helen Exley

The first book is one I'm currently reading, "eat dirt," by Dr. Josh Axe.** (Dr. Axe is a doctor of natural medicine and a clinical nutritionist.) My whole life I've had persistent allergies, and this book just may be the answer for which I've been searching for quite a while. The subtitle is "Why Leaky Gut May Be the Root Cause of Your Health Problems..." According to the book, 80 percent of Dr. Axe's patients do have leaky gut. There is a quiz in the book to see if you have it. With today's toxic environment and people's toxic lifestyles, no wonder so many people are less than well. Dr. Axe gives many helpful suggestions not only in his book, but there is a lot of free info on his website, as well. (We're especially proud of Dr. Axe since he's from Nashville!)

"I must say I find television very educational. The minute someone turns it on, I go into the library and read a good book."-Groucho Marx

A book that I really like and think is very helpful in my daily living is "Become a Better You." by Joel Osteen. The subtitle is "7 Keys to Improving Your Life Every Day." In fact, all of Joel's books are very positive and empowering.

"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends, they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers."
-Charles W. Eliot

Lastly, another book which I recently finished reading is "Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar Miracle Health System" by Paul Bragg and Patricia Bragg. I now use many of the helpful suggestions (that I feel are right for me) that are in this book.

They have an interesting website, www.bragg.com

Greg tends to like books with adventure like those by author Clive Cussler.

Sometimes it's fun to go back and reread the books of your childhood, like "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson or "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. And, it would also be neat to read some of the old classics that you never got to read in the past.

"A book is a magical thing that lets you travel to far-away places without leaving your chair."
-Katrina Mayer

"I'm a bookaholic on the road to recovery. Ha, not really. I'm on the road to the bookstore."-Author Unknown

Happy reading!

Animal Wisdom

Welcome!

Animals have so much to teach us, if we just pay attention.  At times, I feel as though animals are in many ways superior to us human beings.  In fact, I believe they have what I call animal wisdom.

Being Thankful

Welcome!

"Thank you for the world so sweet.
Thank you for the food we eat.
Thank you for the birds that sing.
Thank you, God, for everything."
-Author Unknown

The above child's mealtime blessing is, in my opinion, the mindset we should have every day, no matter what's going on in our lives.  If we did, I feel the world would be a much better place for us all.

Here are some more thankful quotes I'd like to share with you:

"...let the thankful heart
sweep through the day and,
as the magnet finds the iron,
so it will find, in every hour,
some heavenly blessings."
-Henry Ward Beecher

"...to live gratitude is to touch Heaven."
-Johannes A. Gaertner

"Some people are always grumbling
because roses have thorns;
I am thankful that thorns have roses."
-Alphonse Karr

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy;
they Are the charming gardeners
who make our souls blossom."
-Marcel Proust

"We should all be thankful for those people
who rekindle the inner spirit."
-Albert Schweitzer

People like the ones mentioned above who come to my mind are:

-Joel Osteen who empowers people with his sermons, emails, and his books.
-Mike Dooley who uplifts people through his books, emails, and workshops.

"Gratitude means to recognize the good in your life,
be thankful for whatever you have...You are blessed."
-Pablo

Joe Vitale tells the story of how his being thankful for a simple pencil took him from poverty to wealth.

The Magic by Rhonda Byrne shows the importance of gratitude.  This life-changing book is one of my favorites.

Years ago, I started keeping a daily gratitude journal which Oprah Winfrey suggested doing on her show.  It has had a positive impact on my life.

are the ones who are always rejoicing at what they have."
