Drug Stores Past and Present Including One That Became a Restaurant

This blog post is a very special one for me because it's about a drug store that became a restaurant. I'm talking about Swaney Swift's on the Square in Gallatin, Tennessee.

You see, my parents used to own a drug store when I was growing up in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. It was called-

Here's the interior of Swaney Swift's-

as compared to the Botts Drug and Variety Store one in Big Stone-

Shirley used to work at the drug store for my parents.

Greg and I really enjoyed our little trip to Gallatin which we'd never before visited. Swaney Swift's used to be an old drug store, but just recently it became a restaurant.

The restaurant is decorated in a drug store motif.

We had a delicious meal there, served by our waitress, Lexie. I had a yummy raspberry grilled cheese sandwich, and for dessert-

what else would be more appropriate in a drug store turned restaurant than a milkshake!

Was it good? Here's the answer! "Good to the last drop," just like that popular coffee that's been around for a while.

And, this old milk shake machine brought back more fond memories of my parents' old drug store.

This experience was like a walk down memory lane for me. It was one I'll always treasure.

Just go to Swaney Swift's if you'd like to make your own fond memories.

Love "The Loving Pie Company"!

Once fall arrives, one thinks of warm, tasty food and and drinks.

I have a wonderful restaurant to recommend that has both of these-

If you love warm, hardy food, especially pies, as I do, this is just the place. "The Loving Pie Company" serves only pies, both savory and sweet.

Upon the recommendation of a woman we know, Greg and I went to Nashville a few weeks ago, just to visit this restaurant, and we weren't disappointed!

The decor is attractive-

The savory pies are great!

Might we suggest the "Shepherd's Pie" which has "local ground beef sauteed with onions, peas, and carrots, then topped with homemade mashed potatoes. always gluten free," to quote the menu.

And, for dessert, there'a a large array of "Sweet Slices," such as-

a fall specialty, "Salted Maple Walnut Pie, " one of the very best desserts I've ever had in my life!

Greg had the "Red Velvet Chess Pie" which would be especially tasty accompanied by one of many beverages they serve-

"The Loving Pie Company" has been favorably mentioned in several publications-

It's "# 11 of 40 bakeries" in Nashville on "TripAdvisor."

And, it's easy on the pocketbook when it's time to pay-

We're looking forward to a return visit, and we might even enjoy our pies outside next time-

Kudos to the talented owner of  this wonderful restaurant-

A Fun-Filled Day in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Welcome!

Wow!  I've missed being here with you every week, but I've been very busy with my other projects.  Hopefully, soon, I'll get to visit with you more often.

Even though we've been busy, Greg and I have taken off some time just to be together and to have fun.

Just recently, we got to visit one of our favorite places, Pigeon Forge, in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee.  It is a fun place, and our day there was fun-filled.

We decided to go to "The Island" in Pigeon Forge since we'd never been there before.

"The Island" has shops...

entertainment...

fun rides...

and restaurants, like Paula Deen's brand new restaurant!

Of course, we just had to go there and try it out!

While waiting for our table, we enjoyed looking around Paula's wonderful large gift shop where we bought a couple of souvenirs.

We also made friends with a cute little fellow named Prince Charming, which he was.

From the gift shop, we rode the escalator to the second floor to the restaurant part.  From there, you can get a grand view of the beautiful Smokey Mountains in the distance.

We ordered our meal which was served family style.  To say it was delicious is an understatement.  It was all so good, we could't decide which thing was our favorite.

Yum!

While words can't really describe our meal...

Greg's face says it all-one happy, satisfied customer!

Since Paula wasn't there in person, I was satisfied just having my picture taken with this life-like cardboard copy of her.

However, if she had been there, I'd have told her that we'd thoroughly enjoyed our visit and down-home gourmet meal, and that we'd tell others about our fun-filled adventure to "The Island," and especially to "Paula Deen's Family Kitchen" in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee!

Buddy's bar-b-q Is Great!

Welcome!

Every time Greg and I go back to visit our folks where we used to live, we just have to stop at a Buddy's bar-b-q restaurant, one of a small chain of restaurants in East Tennessee.  (We love and promote local!)

                                               Kingston, Tennessee Location

We sometimes use their drive-thru and other times we dine inside which is attractively decorated according to where the restaurant is located.

                                                         Sevierville, Tennessee

The bar-b-q is great.  Greg's favorite is the pork.  In fact, their bar-b-q was voted # 1 in Sevier County by a local survey.

Besides bar-b-q, there are several other tasty items on the menu.

I love their Hawg Back Potatoes!

A Hot Fudge Cake is a great way to finish your meal!  (Yum!)

We heard of one man who traveled a hundred miles to one of the Buddy's locations every time there was a big church function, so he'd have something delicious to take for the meal!

For great quality food served in a friendly, rustic atmosphere, you can't beat Buddy's bar-b-q!  What a great alternative to the big chains!

We can hardly wait until our next trip back to Buddy's!

They also cater.  Check out their web site.

Notice our wedding anniversary gifts, including a Buddy's cap and gift certificate!

We also recently celebrated the birthdays of three family members all at one time!  Happy birthday Greg, Julie, and Nick!
