Welcome!
On this blog post, I'd like to discuss a subject near and dear to my heart, the arts!
I dearly love art because I've been around it most of my life. My parents, brother, and two grandmothers all either did art professionally or as a hobby.
As a child, I enjoyed art as a hobby, and I also studied art in school. Later, I started doing art as a profession, as I still do to this day. In fact, I currently have my work for sale in a couple of shops. Also, you can see some of my work at:
www.beckyarnottartist.com
Art can refer not only to painting and drawing, but to sculpture, photography, writing, music, theater, dance, etc. Actually, anything can be thought of as an art, such as "The Art of Positive Living."
"Art is Man's nature. nature is God's art."-James Bailey
Which brings me to the main reason why I'm writing this blog post-
with a sign I hated to see on its door-
I've written about this wonderful shop twice before on this blog:
-The 2/9/13 post-"Wall Candy Has Art, Crafts, Framing"
-The 11/12/13 post-"Welcome to an Artisan's Party"
I'm leaving up the two posts I mentioned above to help the essence of this shop live on, to be an inspiration to others to again have something similar to this. We can only hope that even in a less than ideal economy that people will remember the arts, and to support our local artists, no matter what type they may be.
Even in schools, art seems to be the first to go.
"Man will begin to recover the moment he takes art as seriously as physics, chemistry, or money."-Ernest Levy
No matter what, the right brain will prevail, the arts will triumph!
Even if it's just on a street corner-
Let's let Wall Candy be a positive learning experience for us all. Please, support your local artists, before it's too late!

Welcome to an Artisans Party!
Welcome!
(Unfortunately, Wall Candy has closed, but you can still enjoy what was through this post. One artist, an elderly man who had come to pick up his art work at the shop right before it closed, said that he sure would miss the artisan's party because it was the only socializing he had besides going to the doctor's office.)
On this blog post, I'd like to share with you a wonderful event that I attended last Thursday night, an Artisans Party at Wall Candy in Columbia, Tennessee. (For more information on Wall Candy, please see my 2/9/13 blog post.) It's where local artists and craftspeople who have their arts or crafts at the shop can meet and mingle with the public.
Here, in words and pictures, is what it was like to be there from my perspective:
The owners of Wall Candy Mary Helen Payne and daughter Courtney Payne were there to greet everyone.
There was food and wine galore!
The Band That Showed Up provided music for everyone's enjoyment.
Sherry M. Scheitel of Stillwaters Studio (stillwatersart.net) was on hand to show off her lovely jewelry and paintings.
Also there, were Greg and Pat Bearden with Greg's black and white photos and decorative door letters. (Greg38401@gmail.com).
I brought in some new stuff for people to see, including a piece of coal, with a mule on it (which is big in Columbia) (Check out my previous Mule Day blogs [4/1/12 and 4/6/13].)
If you missed this wonderful event this month, don't despair, for there's an Artisans Party the first Thursday night of every month! The next one is Thursday, December 5. Hope to see you there!

Wall Candy Has Art, Crafts, and Framing
Welcome!
(Although Wall Candy is no longer in existence, you can see what a wonderful place it was through this blog post.)
Wall Candy in Columbia, Tennessee is a great place to visit if you need lovely art to grace your walls or custom frames for your pictures. Perhaps you'd like to have handmade pottery to decorate your home or beautifully-designed jewelry to adorn yourself. Wall Candy has this and much more.

Courtney Payne and her mother Mary Helen Payne are the owners of Wall Candy.

Courtney told me that they have art classes once a month, and that they plan to have pottery and jewelry classes later.
The day I was there, oil-and-acrylics artist Susan E. Jones was teaching an art class at Wall Candy.

They have open house the first Thursday of every month from 5:30 PM-8:30 PM where you can meet and mingle with many of the local Wall Candy artists who attend these events. Live music and refreshments are provided for everyone's enjoyment.
Bottom line: If you're looking for one-of-a-kind handmade items for yourself or unique gifts for others, this is the place to stop and shop!
