Acts of Kindness

Welcome!

This past week, Greg was looking out of our living room window when he called to me in the next room.  He wanted me to see two passersby who had gotten out of their vehicle to come to the aid of a distressed goat across the road who had gotten his head caught in the wire fence, as he was eating grass.

Later that day, I was talking to my mother on the phone, telling her about the kindness of the two guys who had unselfishly stopped to help the goat.  We thought it was especially great, because they just wanted to help with apparently no expectation of praise or reward.  They, of course, had no idea that someone would be taking their picture and turning their act of kindness into an act of mini-heroism, an example for the rest of us.  An action such as this renews our faith in humanity as a whole, that some people in our world still care about doing what is right, decent, and good.

Every person can have a positive impact on the lives of others.  These guys never realized that what they did would inspire a blog post that would go around the world to help show that kindness still exists, that all the negativity presented on the nightly news is not all there is to life!

The above event got me thinking about some kind, special people who have shown up in my life the last few months.  One woman I know called me recently to tell me about a gift shop that she thought would be a perfect place for me to I sell my coal  magnets and jewelry.  It made me feel good that this woman would take time out from her busy day to encourage me with my art.

Another woman in my life is very generous.  She's always giving people gifts.  She's given Greg and me several things.  She apparently gives for the joy of it.  Life has been good to her financially.  It does seem that what you give out comes back to you.  (Things you give to others don't have to be expensive, however.  You can give wildflowers, your time, a prayer, a song, etc.)

Witnessing the kindness of others makes me evaluate myself, to see if I'm doing all I can to bring more kindness into my daily life.
