"Upcoming Book Preview"

In this post, I'd like to share with you how far along I am with writing my upcoming book about life in the Southern Appalachians today, as well as in earlier times. I'm still working on it every day, and it should be ready to publish in a few short weeks.

I'd like to give you a brief preview of  a few chapters in my new book. This is exclusive information, all of which will not be in my book, but it is similar to what will be in there.

This could have been in my "Timeless Treasures" chapter-

It is a unique 120-year old ironing board that can be made into-

a seat when not in use.

These could have been in my "Quilts" chapter-

Here are two pretty, unique quilted Christmas balls.

And, finally, for those of you that like something kind of scary from time to time, there's my "Haunted Appalachia" chapter. There are several paranormal pictures in that chapter, but this one is not in there-

I only found this picture a few days ago when I was going through my hundreds of pictures to find ones that I could use in my book. Neither Greg nor I can remember exactly where this is, but we do know it is a small town in Virginia. I don't know why I even took this picture since it's of a really run-down street where there used to be businesses.

As I studied the picture...

I noticed unmistakable ectoplasm in the upper front of the building at the end of the street. There is also a small amount of ectoplasm on the wires on the upper left side of the picture.

What caused the ectoplasm? We can only speculate. Most old buildings tend to have at least some spirit activity around them.

I'm talented in taking paranormal photographs, but I have no idea how to interpret them. I leave that to professional psychics.

By the way, author Mark Muncy said that he thought that the Appalachians were "one of the darkest places on the planet..."

A few of the other chapters in my book are entitled "Critters," "Appalachian Mountain Coal," and "Memorable Moments." And there is a lot more!

Until my book is published, you might want to check out my paranormal Amazon Kindle book, "Photographic Encounters of the Spirit Kind," and also my memoir, "Down Memory Lane," which is in both the paperback and Kindle versions. The setting for both of these books is mostly in the Southern Appalachians.

Happy reading!

Angels Among Us

Welcome!

I got something in the mail just recently that was the inspiration for this blog post. It was an invitation to subscribe to a magazine, "Angels on Earth," which I'm thinking about doing. The magazine is from "Guideposts."

On the "Angels on Earth" website, it says, "Angels come in many forms, from helpful animals to mysterious strangers. Angels can come to us in dreams, on a breeze, or in a strain of music. When they appear, they always radiate life affirming hope and comfort." Even if you don't subscribe to the magazine, the website has some helpful articles worth reading, like "Overcoming Negativity."

"I saw an angel in the marble and carved until I set him free."
-Michelangelo

I've experienced angel contact myself which I've written about on previous blog posts.

Just recently, I've had a couple of unusual things happen which I believe are related to the angelic realm-

The first one was, that one of Greg's large sunflowers fell over and died, but this pretty little flower seemed to appear out of nowhere and took it's place-

Then, after I'd taken a picture of this canna on our deck, I noticed what appeared to be ectoplasm in the photo. An angel, perhaps?

From a cute email someone sent us-
"All angels are girls because they gotta wear
Dresses and boys didn't go for it."
-Antonio, age 9, from "Angels...as explained by children" email

"May God grant you always...
A sunbeam to warm you,
a moonbeam to charm you,
a sheltering Angel
so nothing can harm you..."

The Pirates' House, Savannah

Welcome!

On my 5/11/14 blog post, entitled "A Trip to Fabulous Savannah," I wrote about our recent trip to a family wedding in Savannah.  On that post, I mentioned that Greg and I and some family members had enjoyed lunch at a restaurant there.  In fact, we enjoyed it so much that I decided to devote a blog post just to the restaurant, The Pirates' House, which is a popular tourist spot in Savannah.

Just looking at it from the outside, you know that this is no ordinary restaurant.

The Pirates' House has a rich history of sailors, seafarers, and, of course, pirates.  In fact, it's supposed to be "the most historic spot in Georgia," according to the brochure.  It even has an association with Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island."  (See F.Y.I. below for access to more detailed information about the history, etc.)

And, it's supposed to be one of the most haunted places!  They don't try to hide the various ghosts that haunt the place, in fact, they flaunt them!

Costumed "pirates" can take you on a haunted tour through the maze of dining areas, or you can tour on your own.

Also, the servers who work there are glad to share The (ghostly) Pirates' House tales with one and all.

In fact, waiter Elijah is a sensitive (like Greg and me) who has taken lots of paranormal photos in the restaurant and can help you take your own, as well.

With the nautical decor and ghostly goings-on, this place has a ton of atmosphere.  It's just a fun place to visit, a must-see when in Savannah.

Oh, and by the way, we also enjoyed our meal!  I had the Southern buffet, and Greg had the fish and chips.

To top it all off, the large gift shop upstairs has gifts galore for those wanting to buy souvenirs as a reminder of their wonderful visit there.

Everything was made even more special because of those we were with.  We all had a great time together.

A close-up reveals what might be an orb between Greg and me.

Practice your posing, ghosts, for Greg and I plan on coming back to The Pirates' House to take more pictures! (and to eat more grub!)
