"Some More Positive Ideas"

Nowadays, it's more important than ever to be positive.

We need to accentuate the positive in our lives, and eliminate the negative.

Here are some positive ideas to help with that-

~Watch positive messages instead of negative ones.

Julie Green, a modern-day prophet, has positive spiritual messages instead of negative ones. www.jgminternational.org

~Also, listening to positive music is very important. What messages are these songs giving us? Also, the frequency of the music is important. Most music is not the right frequency these days. The best songs are on the Hertz frequencies. Several musical artists like the Beatles, Michel Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mozart, Pink Floyd, as well as many others performed songs that were mostly on the Hertz frequencies. No wonder their songs were so popular and harmonious.

The German handpan expert and teacher Malte Marten on YouTube plays handpans that are tuned to the various Hertz frequencies. One of his YouTube videos is entitled "Positivity Meditation."

The Hertz frequencies are supposed to be healing both physically and emotionally. They can even make you feel more positive! 528 Hz is especially healing since it's supposed to lower your cortisol levels, as well as doing other positive things.

~Reading books that promote positivity by authors such as Rhonda Byrne, Norman Vincent Peale, Carol Tuttle, and Joel Osteen can be very helpful.

~Also, getting out and traveling to different places can be fun and relaxing, and can put you into a positive frame of mind. You don't have to go very far to have a wonderful travel experience. Greg and I enjoy going on day trips, places that are not far from where we live.

We recently went on one of those trips, to Blowing Rock, North Carolina, which is one of the best-kept secrets as a travel destination. The town of Blowing Rock is very attractive-

with great places to enjoy a tasty meal, and to shop for local crafts, etc.

The Blowing Rock itself is a wonderful experience. The view from the rock is really beautiful, and so is the landscaping near the rock, complete with goldfish and turtles.

You can get a snack there, (We had delicious ice cream!) and visit their gift shop, complete with a couple of pretty resident cats. The people at Blowing Rock are very friendly and helpful. This was one of our best trips ever. You might want to visit there yourself, and/or go to another place near where you live. We think day trips are the best!

~Finally, another positive idea is to celebrate!

A couple of our family members have an adorable dog named Lucy Elizabeth, and they recently celebrated her first birthday, complete with a doggie cake-

Today, Saturday, June 14, 2025 is a special day, and many are celebrating this historic day.

Yesterday, Friday, June 13, was also a wonderful day. It's all in how we look at things. Look for the good, and we can find it. There are things to celebrate each and every day if we eliminate the negative, and look at everything in a positive light.

In July, I'll have a very special blog post featuring my new book about Southern Appalachia, as well as other things. Please stay tuned!

An Awesome Day!

"What is so rare as a day in June?" This is a quote from the talented American poet, James Russell Lowell. I often think of this quote when June arrives. June has always been my favorite month because of the nice weather and the beautiful trees and flowering plants. June makes me feel like "God's in His Heaven - All's right with the world!"-Robert Browning

It's also a wonderful time to travel! Greg and I like to go on day trips, places that are not too far from our home, but that are fun, entertaining, and educational. Just last week, we went on such a trip, to a really neat place, historic Mabry Mill in Meadows of Dan, Virginia on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There is a restaurant and a gift shop at the mill, and that's where we went first to have lunch.

We really enjoyed the country-style food-

 So good!

The corn bread is made from the corn that is ground there at the mill.

After lunch, we enjoyed looking around the gift shop which features Virginia crafts and food and all kinds of souvenirs of the mill and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I bought a pretty magnet with a picture of Mabry Mill.

I also took several of my own pictures-

Here's one photo of Greg with the mill in the distance. (This place is a photographer's dream!)

We got to tour the mill and some other buildings, too, which showed rural life in Appalachia.

To sum it all up, I'd have to say that this was an awesome trip on an absolutely awesome day!

Here is a picture of my talented father-*

that I'm honoring for Father's Day.

Father's Day is next Sunday, June 19, 2022. Happy Father's Day to all fathers everywhere!

* My grandmother was also an artist, and when I was growing up, she did a painting of Mabry Mill which is how I became interested in visiting the mill.

Delightful Day Trips

Welcome!

Glad you could join me as I fill you in on a recent trip that Greg and I took.  It was a day trip in which we went to a nearby destination for a delightful day of fun and relaxation.

On my previous blog post (October 6, 2015), I wrote about our trip to Memphis, Tennessee.  That was a long trip for us, and we spent the night.  We had every aspect of the trip planned, and it all went pretty much the way we had hoped it would.

However, day trips are different, because they are closer home and you don't spend the night.  While long trips are fun every once in a while, you can go on day trips more often, and you generally don't get as worn out or spend as much money on these short excursions.

Part of our recent trip was to a park that Greg and I had been wanting to visit for some time, Cedars of Lebanon State Park in Lebanon, Tennessee.  There are a lot of cedar trees at the park and 19 rare plants that grow abundantly there and nowhere else in the world!  The park offers hiking, picnicking, camping, and horseback riding.

We enjoyed exploring the park and taking pictures of the few colorful fall leaves that were still left.

Afterwards, we drove a short distance to the small town of Carthage, Tennessee which Greg was curious about since it was the former hometown of a famous fellow Tennessean, Al Gore.

Sometimes, it's more interesting not to plan every aspect of your trip, but to just let things happen.  And, sometimes you are pleasantly surprised!

That's what happened to us as we left Carthage; we found a great place for our evening meal, Timberloft Restaurant in nearby Gordonsville, Tennessee.  Timberloft has steaks, barbecue, and southwestern cuisine.  It's the number one restaurant in Gordonsville, and was awarded a "Certificate of Excellence" from TripAdvisor.

Timberloft welcomed us with colorful fall flowers and pumpkins.

The interior is inviting and cozy!

The charming outdoorsy decor has whimsical touches.

After a delicious meal of perhaps a "Philly Steak & Cheese" sandwich and "Kale Salad" or a "BBQ Stuffed Potato," you might want to try one of their delightful desserts.  They even have gluten-free options.

We enjoyed our last day trip so much that we decided to go on another one soon, for shopping and for the opening of a tearoom in the charming little town of Bell Buckle, Tennessee.

You might want to plan your own day trip soon, to explore somewhere that you've never been.  Where would you go?  What would you do?  Bet you'd have a great time!  (Did you know that many people never take advantage of the entertaining and interesting places near or even in their own hometowns?)
